A GCA's Experience in School Anniversary

Sculpture Exhibition

We have gone to an exhibition with Ms. Hadley on November. The title of the exhibition is Wu Weishan Cultural Figures Sculpture Gallery of Nanjing Museum. The kind of this exhibition is sculpture exhibition. The whole artworks were all made by one artist, Wu Weishan. I think this artwork is like traditional but also is contemporary.

In the exhibition, we looked for a lot of nice artworks. I find an artwork and I think that is very interesting. This artwork’s title is “Lin Sanzhi Walking and Chanting”. Wu weishan is the artist of this artwork. This artwork was made in 1993. This artwork’s shape is very clear and it is an old man. The lines of the artwork are the streamline form. The color is brown and has a little bit of yellow. The artwork’s texture is rough but has a little bit of smooth. This artwork’s subject is an old man holding a walking stick and opening his mouth small. I see the man is bareheaded and I find he is bending his brows slightly. He wears a long coat and one and one of his hand is in his coat’s pocket. His left hand holds a thin walking stick and he walks on the street and seems to say something. By the way, this artwork is made out of copper.

When I see the “Lin Sanzhi Walking and Chanting”, it makes me feel lonesome because the man is walking on the street alone. I think that the outside is very cold because the man’s right hand is in his pocket and he is bends his brows slightly. The artwork reminds me of another thing that I have seen. Last winter, I was walking on the street and I saw an old man held a walking stick and wanted to cross the road, and then I ran to the old man and helped him to cross the road. I think the artwork in very attracts my vision and makes me remind a lot of things. I think the artwork is very vivid and the artist wants to make us feel a little bit antiquity about this artwork.

I like this artwork. Although this artwork makes me feel a little bit heavy, I think it is a successful artwork. I think the artist made this man very vivid and it almost like a real man. His face is very true to life, I almost can see the wrinkles on his face. The man’s coat is very big and long, the coat’s creases are very realistic and not rigid. His feet are walking and his mouth is speaking. I like the artwork very much.
I think the other people will also appreciate this artwork because this artwork is very vivid to see and the old man’s appearance is absolutely lifelike.

In the end, some of my classmates and I were very lucky because Wu Weishan was went to there. He is very kind and polite and we take a photo of all our members.

Eat Western-style food with Grade 12 Mentors

This year's Christmas Eve is very special to me because I had the sumptuous dinner with some of my classmates and two Grade 12 mentors.On Dec.24th, my classmates: Alice Jiang, Julia, Frank Wu, and Michael, Grade 12 mentors: Alice Song, Felicia and I decided to have our Christmas Eve dinner in a western dining room which is called My Place. Most of Grade 12 mentors said that My Place's western food is very traditional and delicious, so we really wanted to go there and have a nice dinner. We mustered at Lion Bridge which is in Hunan Road at 7 p.m. Then, Alice Song and Felicia guided us through the Lion Bridge and after we walked for about 5 minutes, we came in front of a door, where there was a brand, the brand saying: My Place. When Alice Song knocked at the door, then a waitresses opened door and said Merry Christmas to us. We went into the house and saw that the restaurant was beautifully decorated. The first floor is public hall, where some Chinese and foreigners were having a dinner and the atmosphere was very harmonization. The waitresses guided us to go on stairs, but the second stairs are full of boxes. So we went into one of the box and after a while, the boss came to see us and said Merry Christmas to us. We were all very happy, and then we had our Christmas Eve Dinner together.

At first, we had the bread. Second, we had the noodles. Third, we had the salad. Fourth, we had the beefsteak. In the end, we had the cake. I likeed this food very much because they were very delicious.

The western food’s cooking, materials, tableware and foods are all different from China’s but they are all delicious as same as Chinese. We had a very nice Christmas Eve this year. We ate the nice, special food and the waiters were also very nice. This dinner made our feel very warm！

GUEST ARTIST

We have listened to a very nice speech on December 1st. Mr. Zhao, who is a good garden design expert, taught us the appreciation and analysis of the Suzhou Garden.

First of all, Mr. Zhao showed us a video. There were many beautiful gardens there, which made us feel very curious about the gardens because we didn’t know how the artists made so beauteous gardens. Then, Mr. Zhao told us what the garden is. He said that the garden in Chinese ancient word is "園".He said the big circle "O" means bounding wall, the "土" means the changes of the terrain, the small circle "o" means the blowout and the "丫" means the tree’s branch. He told us that the garden has many different explains in different places. For example, in Western countries, the garden means Sacred Gravel; however, in ancient China, garden means the enclosed ground for raising animals. Next, he explained that there were four kinds of garden in China. They are Royal Garden, Private gardens, Temple Gardens and Scenic Garden. After that, Mr. Zhao began to introduce the Suzhou Garden. He told us that Suzhou Garden has many characters. First, Suzhou Garden is an ancient forest city because there are a lot of age-old plants in the garden. Second, the Suzhou Garden has the fresh history and culture. Third, Mr. Zhao said if we go into the Suzhou Garden, we will feel just like in the beautiful landscape painting. Fourth, the Suzhou Garden is the centre of the arts. Finally, Mr. Zhao introduced some of the peculiarities about the garden and he also designed a lot of famous gardens.

All in all, I learned much knowledge about this wonderful speech and I realized that Art is very important for us because it can help us to understand the world. I am very proud of our country because our country can create many wonderful things. In fact, I have been to the Suzhou Garden before, and the landscape in the garden is very beautiful. In my opinion, wherever you see the outlook in the Suzhou Garden, there is all a pretty painting. In conclusion, Art is in everywhere!
